It’s spring- or is it summer??

Bird life is now particularly abundant if a trifle noisy at dawn. Our old favourites are very much in evidence: Kereru (native wood pigeon), Tui, Shag, Heron, King Fisher, Swallow, Royal Spoon Bills, etc, etc. Some of these come for a drink and a bird bath on (y)our balcony. We’ll shortly be posting pictures of these distinctive and colourful creatures for you to identify. NZ is currently running a competition to choose the “bird of the year” which was won last year by the Kereru! The stunning little fellow above is the NZ native kingfisher, also called the kotare in Maori.

Bookings for accommodation are coming in earlier this year and it is good to see more enquiries for the shoulder season. The weather tends to be more settled and town is not so busy.

A significant number of our guests come with ambitious plans to sightsee around the Nelson/Tasman/ Marlborough districts, only to end up ensconced here in the Nest to enjoy a much deserved restorative rest.  A good book and a glass of something local and award winning takes a bit of beating, as does a kayak around the estuary, perhaps to work up a thirst for one of the many Nelson craft beers.

We remain attentive but not intrusive hosts and are happy to make suggestions and recommendations to enhance your stay in “our little corner of the world!”
